“Road to Recovery,” a television program that airs on SNJ Today routinely interviews experts from New Jersey rehab centers. In a recent episode, the show’s host, Michael Deleon, interviewed Behavioral Crossroads’ Rabbi Avi Richler. The episode aimed a spotlight on the need for substance abuse treatment centers in NewJersey that are aligned with the Jewish faith, and how Behavioral Crossroads is filling this unique void.
During the half-hour program, Rabbi Richler addressed the importance of overcoming shame in order to seek the help, and the importance of reshaping the image and perceptions that society has of people who struggle with addiction that are often purely stereotypical and not rooted in truth. He also discussed the role that spirituality plays in recovery and why many Jewish men and women are often underserved in Christian-based New Jersey rehab centers.
Moreover, Rabbi Richler shared how a lack of spirituality can leave men and women feeling that they are on their own, and more likely to self-medicate. He affirmed that when people fill themselves with a mission, purpose, a reason for living and a path, there’s less room for addiction, and a higher propensity toward living a healthy and fulfilled life.
In addition to Rabbi Richler’s interview being featured on “Recovery Road” and the SNJ Today programming lineup, the content was also featured in Chicago’s “The Daily Herald” and other major media outlets. By sharing Rabbi Richler’s perspectives with the media, Behavioral Crossroads is helping to create more awareness around the topics of addiction and recovery so that families have the information they need to determine if and when a loved one needs help.
